NEW YORK, NY, MAY 24, 2018 – For the second year, Beyond Type 1 has been named an Official Charity Partner of the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, fielding a team of 21 runners from 6 countries. Each of the runners, aged 19 to 66, lives with Type 1 diabetes.

The Beyond Type Run team will join over 50,000 runners and race through the five boroughs of New York City to destroy stereotypes about the autoimmune disease and inspire those living with the disease around the globe. They’re on a mission to show the world what living beyond Type 1 looks like, and to raise awareness and funds for education, advocacy and a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

Beyond Type Run is made up of male and female runners ranging in age from 19 to 66 all living with Type 1 diabetes, ranging in age from 19-66, from England, France, India, Mexico, South Africa and the United States. For some, the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon will be their first, while others are excited to run again in this iconic race.

“We are grateful to our presenting sponsors, Dexcom and the Omnipod® Insulin Management System are proud to return to the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon with a unique and diverse team,” said Sarah Lucas, Beyond Type 1 CEO and Co-Founder. “Each member of the Beyond Type Run team lives with Type 1 diabetes, and their participation in this iconic event provides tremendous opportunities to educate the world about Type 1 diabetes, destroy stereotypes and change lives.”

Team Captain Dave Holmes, who has run the TCS New York City Marathon once before, is thrilled to return for the first time after his diagnosis. “Running with other Type 1s has made me stronger and healthier in every way. It’s more than just exercise, it’s seeing up close that Type 1 diabetes doesn’t need to limit us in any way. I’m excited to challenge myself, and to show the world what you can do when you make the decision to live beyond.”

More than 350 official charity partners will be part of the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, providing thousands the opportunity to run in the world’s most popular marathon.

“We are proud to welcome Beyond Type 1 to our official charity partner program for the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon,” said Christine Burke, Vice President of Runner Products and Services for New York Road Runners. “Participants in our official charity partner program are able to reach their goal of running 26.2 miles across New York City while directly impacting causes that are important to them through their fundraising efforts. We are inspired by their commitment and wish them the best of luck as they begin their amazing journey to the TCS New York City Marathon.”
