Meet Apoorva, your Beyond Type 1 Global Ambassador in India!

Apoorva is a doctor and currently pursuing MD in Pathology and has been a type 1 diabetic (T1D) for the last 10 years. She is a member of the Beyond Type 1 Global Ambassador Council and has represented India in various international diabetes forums. She is part of non-profit organization Diabetes India Youth in Action (DIYA) for spreading awareness & fighting against the stigma and stereotypes associated with T1D. She has been actively involved in patient advocacy and appointed as the SEAR (South East Asian Region) representative-elect for Young Leaders in Diabetes (YLD) at International Diabetes Federation.

As Apoorva says, “I am really passionate about working with young type 1 diabetics for conducting regular educational camps to ensure easy access to diabetes education and the fight for affordable insulin. I wish to actively support organizations by collecting better data, sharing personal experiences and by campaigning to make life less troublesome for people with type 1 diabetes all over the world. I have conducted Live Beyond Social camps on November 14th for the past two years to mark World Diabetes Day.”

Why is she passionate about improving life with T1D in India? “During my medical college training, I realized there are lots of myths & social stigma attached to people living with diabetes in India and many people end up into devastating complications due to lack of awareness.”

“In New Delhi, we are a team of passionate young T1Ds who ensure we outreach to create awareness, provide social and emotional support to people living with type 1 diabetes. We believe in making life with diabetes a smooth ride together. For a long time after my diagnosis I felt alone, but getting involved with Beyond Type 1 gave me a big family who support me always! True power lies in the being together.
