In a life-threatening situation

  • Call 911 – due to the heavy volume of calls, be sure to stay on the line until your call can be answered.

In need of disaster assistance

  • In need of emergency Type 1 diabetes supplies, text following information to 281-928-5124:  name, phone #, current location and specific needs at this time. Or email with information on this form.
  • For emergency medical supplies, you can also fill out this form. Family advocates and volunteers organized in this Facebook group are working on filling needs of impacted individuals and families with donated supplies.
  • If you need replacement insulin or medications, a list of open pharmacies can be found here.
  • Call the American Red Cross at 877-500-8645.
  • Looking for a shelter? Here is a directory of open shelters in the Houston area.
  • For those with disabilities, call Portlight Hotline at (800) 626-4959. They work closely with the Houston Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, disability organizations, TX state government, the FEMA Regional Disability Integration Specialist and Partnership member organizations from across the country.


  • The Red Cross is encouraging you to list yourself as “Safe and Well.

  • Secure insulin If you can get to a pharmacy, it’s the best way to access your medicines or get emergency supplies. A list of open pharmacies can be found here.

  • Omnipod users – Podders needing supplies can contact customer care team at 800-591-3455.  We have been notified that local representatives in affected areas will have additional supplies.

Donate Gift Cards The team at T1 Team Texas – working on the ground specifically to fill the needs of the Type 1 community – have asked for gift cards to Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS.

Donate funds

  • Donate to the American Red Cross. You can also give a quick $10 donation now by texting “HARVEY” to 90-999.
  • Donate to The Google Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund (Google will match the first $1 million).
  • Donate to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund created by Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, and administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.


Donate insulin + test strips – Insulin For Life USA aids those living with diabetes by supplying life-saving insulin and other supplies. Three initial palettes are currently en route to their on the ground contact in Texas. In order to continue to provide emergency supplies, Insulin for Life is specifically requesting the following:

  • Insulin (unopened, not expired)
  • Test strips (of any variety)

Donate your home –

  • Airbnb is waiving service fees for those affected by the disaster and checking in between Aug. 23 and Sept. 1, and can guide users in creating a listing where their home is offered to victims for free.
