GENERAL OVERVIEW

What We Do: Beyond Type 1 is a nonprofit organization changing what it means to live with diabetes. Through platforms, programs, resources and grants, Beyond Type 1 is uniting the global diabetes community and providing solutions to improve lives today. Founded in 2015 with a focus on education, advocacy and the path to a cure for type 1 diabetes, Beyond Type 1 has grown to also include programs for those with type 2 diabetes. A new model of philanthropy, Beyond Type 1 aims to change what it means to live with chronic illness.

Our Impact: Beyond Type 1 serves tens of thousands of people impacted by diabetes around the globe every day, and serves millions of people every month. The platforms represent the largest digital footprint of any diabetes organization in the world. Beyond Type 1 strives to create programs that offer solutions to improve the lives of those impacted by diabetes, while also building global reach and filling gaps in the diabetes space.

Community Donations: 100 percent of donations made by the community directly fund Beyond Type 1’s portfolio of platforms, programs and grants, making a direct and immediate impact in the lives of people living with diabetes.

Sponsorship Framework: In addition to the support of individual donors, Beyond Type 1 partners with corporations and organizations to support specific programs, educational content initiatives and platforms through advertising. Corporate support is disclosed on materials related to each partnership, and is also available in aggregate on this page. Beyond Type 1 engages in corporate partnerships on a case-by-case basis, with input from the Board of Directors, Senior Staff and various stakeholders internally and externally. The goal of partnerships is to further the organization’s mission and drive expanded impact.

Pharmaceutical Relationships: Beyond Type 1 partners with pharmaceutical companies, including insulin manufacturers, when the organization finds that doing so furthers mission and impact. Beyond Type 1 believes that high quality, modern insulin must be available to people with diabetes regardless of employment or insurance status, across all demographics, without barriers and at an affordable and predictable price point. The organization’s position is that these partnerships do not eliminate the ability to put pressure on these same companies related to insulin affordability and access, and such partnerships can create unique opportunities to drive change, such as the creation of GetInsulin.org. Beyond Type 1 has published extensively on insulin affordability, and will continue to expand its role in insulin advocacy.

Volunteers + Pro Bono Services: The Beyond Type 1 staff is small, and relies heavily on volunteers . These volunteers include the Board of Directors, the Leadership Council, and thousands in the community who offer their support. Moreover, Beyond Type 1 is grateful to have robust pro bono services offered by Lowenstein Sandler LLP (Legal), by 9thWonder (Media Consulting) and by Diabetes Daily + Google Grants (Ads).
