Kristian Hurley
Senior Vice President of Social Impact and Global Advocacy

Kristian Hurley is a seasoned nonprofit leader dedicated to advancing improved health outcomes and amplifying the voices of people living with chronic illness. As Senior Vice President of Social Impact and Global Advocacy at Beyond Type 1, she drives global initiatives focused on expanding access, reducing stigma, and strengthening community-led solutions for people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Her work blends strategic advocacy, cross-sector partnerships, and impactful storytelling to create change at both the grassroots and policy levels.
Over her career, Kristian has raised millions of dollars to support programs that improve health outcomes, expand access to care, and build a healthier environment, particularly in underserved communities. As Executive Director of the American Heart Association of Southeastern Michigan, she led a high-performing team to deliver community-driven policy change, cultivated top corporate partnerships, and mobilized C-suite leadership to champion cardiovascular health and overall community health. Prior to that, at the Autoimmune Association, she led national communications efforts, leveraging partnerships with brands such as the Detroit Pistons and MTV, and organized international scientific convenings, and advocated for autoimmune patients from Congress to the United Nations.
Kristian has been recognized as a Michigan Chronicle Woman of Excellence and a Crain’s Detroit Business Notable Woman in Nonprofits. She holds degrees in Management and Political Science from Case Western Reserve University.
