We are a community of leaders working to fight the disease and make our voices heard — from everyday people, students, and activists to scientists, athletes, and celebrities.
We come from all walks of life and we work together to save lives, protect our health, and inspire people to achieve what they never thought possible. In a world in which everyone deserves to thrive, we transform the challenges of life with diabetes into strengths.
Mission
Beyond Type 1 spreads awareness about diabetes and provides the tools and resources people need to discover, understand, and better manage this chronic condition.
We help people survive by recognizing the signs of diabetes.
We help them thrive — to not only coexist with the disease, but learn to live their best lives.
By driving innovation, funding, and new solutions, we help the world drive toward a cure.
Vision
We envision a world in which anyone with diabetes has access to the information and care needed to receive a diagnosis and improve their health.
A world in which those with the disease can easily find, support, and empower one another.
A world in which everyone with diabetes can survive, thrive, and drive progress.
A world beyond diabetes.
We impact millions of lives every year

"This tattoo has been on my mind ever since the first time he asked me “why am i the only one that has to wear a dexcom and a pump?” and what better tattoo to get than one of the medical devices that literally helped keep your child alive for 2.5 years after their T1D diagnosis? You’re never alone bubba, I’m always gonna be your biggest cheerleader. 💙"

Trying to drop pounds with diabetes? Add these three daily habits consistently and watch the pounds drop. These recommendations work great for most, but aren`t right for all. Especially if you live with other health conditions, check in with your doctor before making any major diet or exercise changes. What habit are you adding first? Doctor`s appointments can be stress-inducing already! If you’re someone who would rather avoid a conversation around weight with your healthcare provider, you are allowed to ask for that! If you want more support with weight management, you are allowed to ask for that too!
For the many ways the topic of weight might come up in an appointment, we’ve outlined some responses you can use to let your healthcare provider know what you need. #LetsTalkWeight

Parking your car farther away from the grocery store, drinking a glass of water when you wake up, and having a 30-second dance sesh are all small healthy habits that can make a huge difference in your diabetes management. Which will you try?

Say it with me: diabetes is not our fault! Too many stigmas and stereotypes make it so everyone with diabetes, type 1 or type 2, don’t get the care and support that are actually proven to be helpful.
Here’s the truth: type 1 diabetes is autoimmune and cannot be prevented. Type 2 diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors; while lifestyle factors can play a part in some cases, they don’t play a part in all. Whether others understand that is their problem, not yours. #LetsTalkWeight

Let’s set the record straight: diabetes ≠ fat and fat ≠ diabetes. Stereotypes and stigmas lead people to create a story in their heads than ask questions, which can lead to frustrating situations.

When you live with diabetes, conversations about weight come up *all the time.* Whether you get told to “just lose weight” or that you “don’t look like you have diabetes,” the language around weight can be harmful, dismissive, and can cause many to feel shame.
It’s time to reframe the conversation. #LetsTalkWeight
If you’ve ever discussed weight with friends, family, or at the doctor’s office, what do you wish people said to you instead? Leave us a comment!

"First time with an arm pump site! A few nerves were involved but I am so proud of her for being the little brave girl she always is! It was a bit of an easier bribe since we found an Etsy shop that makes cute sleeves for her pump!
Upon diagnosis an arm site wasn’t super realistic as she doesn’t have a ton of real estate to work with but she’s put on some weight these past few weeks and we are giving this spot a shot! It’s important for her to try new spots other than her tummy since the pump site is changed every three days and scar tissue will eventually develop. 💙"

COOL DIABETES DATE! 📅
On this day in 1922, the first-ever insulin injection was given to a human patient. 💉
In January 1922, a young Canadian patient named Leonard Thompson was 14-years-old, 65 pounds, and dying when he received the first famous doses. Despite having an allergic reaction to the dog-insulin, he regained his strength quickly.
Yay science!
