A Weekend Away At Adult Diabetes Camp

 2022-07-18

A Slipstream Weekend, hosted by our friends at Connected in Motion, is an active, social and educational weekend for adults living with type 1 diabetes. But that explanation sounds so formal—it’s really a weekend jam-packed full of outdoor adventure, engaging workshops, great food and incredible people. It’s a chance to connect with like-minded type 1s, get out and try something new and learn from each others’ experiences.

Simply put, it’s diabetes camp for adults!

Here we’ve gathered our favorite photos from the 2022 Northeastern Slipstream to help you get a better idea about Slipstreams. Psst! We think you’re going to want to go.

Please note: If you want to attend adult diabetes camp this summer, there are a few more opportunities to join but sign up quickly! Here is a list of upcoming events.

A weekend away at camp means a beautiful location outdoors.
At the NorthEastern Slipstream, we attended camp at Camp Caribou, in Winslow, Maine.

We started the weekend with a welcome party—a chance to meet our new friends, all of who live with type 1 diabetes. There was also wine and cheese. Just saying!

Connected in Motion hosts Julie and Amy talked about all the things we had to look forward to over the weekend – activities, sessions with speakers, and more.

After playing a few ice breaker activities, we enjoyed a campfire and sang camp songs with the help of the Camp Caribou staff. S’mores were enjoyed (and carb counted for)!

Over the weekend, we participated in all kinds of activities—from rock wall climbing to water skiing.

Of course, there were lots of insulin pumps and diabetes tech…

We learned lots of tips and tricks about diabetes during discussions with speakers and our camp hosts.
Some topics that were covered: nutrition, mindfulness toolkits, mental health and cannabis.

There was plenty of time for coffee and laughter on the porch…

We had such a fun weekend!

Who says diabetes camp is only for kids? Not us! A weekend away at diabetes camp as an adult is such an enriching, soul-fulfilling experience, and it’s all made possible by Slipstreams.
