A program of Beyond Type 1, Diabetes Scholars offers scholarships for graduating high school seniors with type 1 diabetes who are planning to attend a four-year university, community college or technical school. Applications are open now through April 14, 2023.

Diabetes Scholars 2023 Requirements:
- The applicant has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
- The applicant is currently enrolled in high school as a graduating senior or home-schooled as a senior rising to freshman in college.
- US citizens & permanent residents (US or PR students)
- Planning to attend a four-year university, a community college or a technical school in the Fall of 2023/Spring of 2024
Items we will ask you with your 2023 Scholars application:
- One essay question (500-word max)
- One question with a short essay reply or two-minute video reply
- One question with a three to five sentence reply
- A senior photo (or similar)
- An unofficial transcript
Scholarship Timeline:
- February 10th: Applications Open
- April 14th: Applications Close
- End of April: Scholars Committee Review
- Mid-May: Awards Outreach to Applicants
- End of May: Awards Announced
The application is intended for only students to complete. We practice a holistic review process by seeking to understand each applicant as a whole individual, using factors such as academic excellence, extracurricular activities, volunteer history, unique interests and strength of character demonstrated through personal essays. Diabetes Scholars Scholarships are not based on financial need.
Recipients will be notified no later than June 1, 2023. Checks will be distributed directly to schools in July upon verification that recipients have been accepted and registered.
