Managing diabetes is tough, and juggling college on top of it can be overwhelming. That’s where Beyond Type 1 steps in with Beyond Scholars.
This year, the program is not only supplying 10 eligible students with a $10,000 need-based scholarship, but recipients will also receive six months of personalized wellness coaching.
And whether you’re living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, Beyond Scholars is here to support you every step of the way.
Applications open Friday, July 25. Think you’re the perfect candidate? We’ve got the tools to help you stand out:
The first tip, and this is an important one, is to make sure you’re eligible for Beyond Scholars. Your checklist should include the following:
- You are living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
- You graduated high school in spring 2025.
- You are attending a 2-year, 4-year or technical college located in the US or any US territories during the 2025-2026 academic year.
- You are a US citizen.
- You are able to demonstrate financial need.
Note: Be prepared to present documents that will confirm/support the above (i.e. proof of enrollment to a qualifying school, transcript, etc.)
The second tip? Nail the essay. It might sound intimidating, but it’s easier than you think. Yes, you’re living with diabetes—but we want to know who you are beyond that. What’s your story? What makes you, you? This is also your chance to share your statement of need. How would this $10,000 scholarship make a difference in your life? Would college be possible without it?
Give it some thought, and give it some depth—applications are open through August 29.
Lastly, we understand this can be a daunting, and possibly even confusing process. If you have questions about eligibility, the essay, or anything in between, head to our Beyond Scholars page.
P.S. Believe in yourself—we already do!
