Managing diabetes can be overwhelming. See how Gary Scheiner, MS, CDCES, and Integrated Diabetes Services transformed one family's journey.
Managing diabetes is a complex and often overwhelming journey—even nine years after my daughter’s diagnosis. Finding the right support system is key to living well with diabetes. My daughter and I found that support system from Gary Scheiner, MS, CDCES, and his clinic, Integrated Diabetes Services.
Our Diabetes Journey: From Diagnosis to Today
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of seven. It was a jarring new reality for her—and for me as her mom.
Now, my daughter is 16, and insulin, tech, diabetes routines, and endocrinology appointments are just regular parts of our lives.
Discovering Gary Scheiner and Integrated Diabetes Services
During the summer of 2024, my daughter and I were fortunate to work with Gary Scheiner and Integrated Diabetes Services.
Gary Scheiner is the delightful, straight-shooting author of “Think Like a Pancreas,” among many other books. He is also a diabetes expert dedicated to helping people understand and manage their condition.
A Unique Approach to Diabetes Care
Integrated Diabetes Services is a clinic dedicated to helping people manage life with diabetes.
They are leaders in one-on-one and remote consulting for people who use insulin.
Working with them was more than just “another diabetes appointment”—it was a transformational experience.
Expertise Rooted in Personal Experience
The depth of knowledge that the Integrated Diabetes Services team brings to their work is truly remarkable.
Their certified diabetes care and education specialists not only understand the medical aspects of diabetes care but also the emotional and psychological challenges that come with type 1 diabetes.
Every CDCES at Integrated Diabetes Services lives with type 1 diabetes, and this shared experience made a huge difference in our care.
Tailored Support for Our Unique Needs
My daughter and I worked with Gary Scheiner and another CDCES named Kathryn, whom we lovingly called “Lady Gary.”
Both were committed to supporting individuals on their unique journeys with diabetes, tailoring their guidance to meet specific needs and goals while aligning with best practices.
Their individualized approach meant that every conversation was relevant to my daughter’s personal circumstances, helping her not just manage blood sugar but truly thrive.
Empowering Education for Lifelong Management
Integrated Diabetes Services places a strong emphasis on education.
Their educators are passionate about equipping people with the knowledge and tools needed to make informed decisions and improve overall health.
Their goal is always to manage diabetes in a way that doesn’t take any more time than necessary. We learned so much, even after nine years with diabetes.
A1C Improvements and Better Health Outcomes
During Zoom calls, Gary and Kathryn suggested increased insulin ratios, profiles for activities, and specific tips for my daughter’s lifestyle.
Though change can be intimidating, the results spoke for themselves.
My daughter’s A1C improved by over a point, and her time in range and time spent with hypoglycemia improved as well. Most importantly, she felt healthier and more confident.
Fostering Empowerment and Independence
One of the most impactful aspects of working with Integrated Diabetes Services was their focus on empowering my daughter.
Learning from people who truly understand the day-to-day challenges of diabetes made a big difference.
She was engaged in every session, and she left feeling strong and capable. Seeing role models thriving with type 1 buoyed her spirit and resolve to live well.
Why We Recommend Integrated Diabetes Services
Integrated Diabetes Services is a leader in diabetes coaching, education, and consulting.
Their team of certified diabetes care and education specialists brings both expertise and personal experience, helping insulin users improve their self-management skills and achieve individual health goals.
My daughter and I are incredibly grateful for the care and support they provided.
