Julia Flaherty is a senior writer, editor, and content marketer specializing in diabetes and healthcare. Living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for more than two decades has shaped her perspective and fueled her commitment to patient advocacy. She is certified in functional nutrition, health coaching, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), bringing both professional expertise and lived experience to her work.
Julia is a contributing author for Diabetes Nerd Network, Type 1 Strong, and Beyond Type 1, and serves as Client Content Manager for Diabetes Nerd Marketing. Through her writing, content strategy, and social media presence, she helps elevate patient voices and make complex health topics more accessible.
In 2019, Julia represented the U.S. at a Change.org global retreat, speaking on the importance of insulin access and affordability. She is also the author of the children’s book series “Rosie Becomes a Warrior,” which aims to empower children and families navigating a new T1D diagnosis to live their happiest lives. Julia has volunteered with Breakthrough T1D since childhood, encouraging togetherness while navigating a difficult chronic illness.
Beyond healthcare, Julia has a soft spot for thrifted fashion, homes with character, and pets with big personalities. Her favorite evenings are spent gathered around a dinner table, sharing meaningful conversations with friends.
