Diabetes Scholars – A Program of Beyond Type 1
In 2004, a group of parents of children with diabetes created the Diabetes Scholars Foundation, with the goal of empowering people living with Type 1 diabetes through education, awarding need-based scholarships for over 3,000 people to attend diabetes education conferences.
In 2008, the merit-based college scholarship program was launched, and over 350 applications were received that year. This year that number grew to over 3,500 applications and to date over $1.6 million in college scholarships has been awarded to students with Type 1 diabetes.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that the Diabetes Scholars Foundation has become a program of Beyond Type 1, and will continue to operate as Diabetes Scholars. Coming under the Beyond Type 1 umbrella, affords Diabetes Scholars the opportunity to expand their college scholarship program and award scholarships to an even greater number of students.
For those wishing to provide scholarships, please reach out to us directly and for those looking to apply for consideration – stay tuned – applications will open in January. We look forward to working together to make the future even brighter for our young diabetes scholars!
